The Best (or second best) Day of Dominic's Life

On Sunday our delightful Dominic received his precious Savior in 1st Holy Communion.  Dominic's soul was so prepared, and he was all aglow for days leading up to the special event.  In trying to prepare Dominic for how special it is to receive the body and blood of our God into our own humble bodies, I told him that receiving 1st Communion would be the most special day of his life...  However, he quickly corrected me and said, "Wouldn't that have been the day I was baptized, mom?"  Sheesh...I guess this kid is well catechized!  Dominic was so giddy the morning of his 1st Communion that it was hard to keep him from bouncing up and down when we arrived at the Cathedral. How I wish we adults kept that same zeal in our hearts for Jesus as we prepare to receive Him each week!

What made Dominic's day even more grace-filled was that it landed on the Feast of Divine Mercy.  Jesus appeared to St. Faustina countless times and expressed over and over again how much He loves us and is longing to give His mercy and graces to anyone who asks for them and trusts in Him.  For example, here are some of Jesus' words written in Faustina's diary:

"My daughter, tell the whole world about My Inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy.The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.

What a beautiful, grace-filled day for Dominic, and a great reminder for the rest of us to receive Jesus in the Eucharist with child-like joy and to ask for Jesus' mercy with childlike trust.
