Future Marathon Man

Dominic (age 12) ran his first competitive running race this year:  the Governor's Cup 10K.  He did excellent!!!  And with absolutely ZERO training too!  This kid just loves to run, so when his daddy asked him a week or two before the race if he wanted to sign up, he simply said, "Sure," and was a sure success.  He got third in his age group and finished in the top third over all of the age groups--not too shabby for a first time runner.  He also finished in less than 1 hour, averaging a 9.33 minute mile over 6 miles!  And one of the sweetest parts was that his grandma and grandpa from South Dakota were here to cheer him on and meet him at the finish line!  He was proud, they were proud, mom and dad were proud...there was a lot of proudness going on :)  He wants to actually train and try it again next year.  We will see if his mom or dad can muster up the gumption to do it with him :)  Too bad his uncles on the Russell side don't live closer, because they could surely run with him.  My oldest brother Mike just ran 2 full marathons this year at the spry age of 49, and my youngest brother Jon has also ran a marathon (over-achievers!)   I must have missed out on those long-distance genes :)   Here are some great photos are our little marathon man :)

The finish line is just a few yards ahead...

Dominic still had a lot of gas in his tank at the end and hardly even looked winded!

How wonderful to see our son so proud and happy!

Grandpa Pat and Grandpa Theresa greeted Dominic at the finish line with proud hugs and took him out for a treat afterwards :)
